Thank you for this gift Ross. So much of my recent work has danced around these themes without realising I was in communion with the greatness of MacDonald.
I will be sharing this with people I know will appreciate it.
Oh I’m so glad to hear that. Macdonald is one of the deepest wells I know. He is one of the few writers who continues to surprise me, even after I feel like I know his work quite well.
Macdonald is brilliant and well paints the setting for God's work in our lives. I do regret he was, like his Donal Grant, a denomination of one. We must build from (or take our departure from) our fathers. That is the catholic strain he missed.
Very well said. MacDonald’s work suffers from this, but perhaps it suffers as a prophet’s words often do—not from departing from the lineage entirely, but from calling the people back to far earlier revelations which had been lost by current and immediately past generations. When I read him, he feels almost indistinguishable for some of the early church fathers.

Captivated by quite a few of Macdonald’s Unspoken Sermons, like yourself, I wrote this piece on God as the all-consuming fire:

I would love to hear your thoughts, Ross!
Cheers.
Nice! Thanks for sharing, Nick. I'll check it out.

Absolutely heart wrenching in the best way and full of hope. I will be reading over again and again.
Wow. Perfectly put. I’m glad it blessed you too!
