Another great one Ross! On this theme, I think you would enjoy Marilynne Robinson's recent book 'Reading Genesis'. She spends a good amount of time with the Joseph narrative and brings out elements I had never considered.
It's extremely well-written (as you would expect) and the only negative thing I can say is that it was too short! I wanted her to keep going into Exodus.
She got me thinking about providence and predestination in a much more cogent way too. I've never felt comfortable with the standard Calvinist approach, but her application of it to some of the thorniest parts of Genesis gave me a better sense of how to square providence with free will.
Will be keen to hear your thoughts once you get around to it.
This is very good, thanks for sharing. I've wondered other times about the meaning of Jesus' analogy of the wineskins, this makes perfect sense.
Oh I'm so glad! Yes, it's a deep image. Thanks for saying that.

Thanks man! Haven’t gotten to Robinson’s latest yet, but heard good things. That makes me even more want to get into it.

Wow, that is high praise. And that's one of my favorite topics to wrestle with. Okay, it's now bumped up the list!
